Azerbaijan and AfDB consider prospects for cooperation in labor and social protection

Representatives of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Labor and Social Security and a delegation from the Asian Development Bank discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of labor and social protection, and improving vocational training, reports Azernews , citing the ministry.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Security, Anar Aliyev, stressed the importance of cooperation with the AfDB in improving the social security system and reforms in the area of ​​pensions and social assistance.

He noted that Azerbaijan had significantly expanded labor market, employment and social protection reforms, as well as active employment programs. In this context, he said that over the past four years, the number of employment contracts concluded has increased by 30%, the wage bill by 2.2 times and 340,000 people have obtained employment through employment agencies.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister noted the measures taken to organize vocational training courses for the unemployed and job seekers.

In turn, the head of the AfDB’s Social Sector Division for Central and Western Asia, Rie Hiraoka, stressed the importance of continued cooperation in the process of coherent reforms in the area of ​​labor, employment and social protection in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan has been a member of the Asian Development Bank since 1999. Since then, the bank has committed $4.4 billion in loans and $32.28 million in technical assistance projects, including co-financing administered by the AfDB for Azerbaijan.
