ECD functions in Limpopo given to education through social development

SEKHUKHUNE – The Limpopo MEC for Social Development, Nkakareng Rakgoale, has officially transferred the Early Childhood Development (ECD) function to MEC Polly Boshielo from the Ministry of Education.

Speaking at the event, Rakgoale indicated that the Ministry of Social Development will continue to provide all necessary support to the Ministry of Education as it takes over the ECD function.


“I must stress that although proclamations have been signed at national and provincial levels, the Ministry of Social Development will remain in the ECD space to ensure that the necessary support is provided to our counterparts in the Ministry of Education in a spirit of cooperation. governance. The Department of Social Development will remain responsible for functions related to social support and care and support for ECD programs, such as the support currently provided to learners in schools,” Rakgoale said.

In his acceptance remarks, Boshielo pointed out that the Ministry of Education will continue to focus on the foundation phase, as this will help the ministry improve its matric results.

“As diverse stakeholders, we all have a stake in the essential work that needs to be done to ensure our children reach their full potential. We must see this as a good investment and the benefits of education accrue to the children themselves, to the rest of society and to the country as a whole,” Boshielo said.
