Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has ordered the government to expand social protection measures, represented in the “Takaful w Karama” program, by adding one million families to the program, bringing the number of beneficiaries to more than 20 million in all the countries.
The measures also include the payment of exceptional aid to nine million families for the next six months, at a total cost of around EGP 1 billion per month for the most needy families and pensioners who receive a monthly pension of less than 2,500 EGP, as well as workers in the state administrative apparatus who receive a salary of less than 2,700 EGP per month.
This happened during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali El-Moselhi, Minister of Interior Mahmoud Tawfek, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait and Minister Social Solidarity Nevine El-Kabbaj, to monitor the social situation. protective measures in light of the impact of the current global economic crisis on local society.
The president’s directives included improving the food security of poor families, by expanding the distribution of subsidized food products, up to 2 million food boxes per month, through the armed forces’ commercial outlets.
Furthermore, the president urged the Ministry of Endowments, in partnership with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, to distribute “sacrificial meat” throughout the year. The Ministry of Finance has provided the necessary financial resources for this purpose, amounting to approximately EGP 11 billion.
During the meeting, the Minister of Social Solidarity reviewed social protection programs, the most important of which are bread and food subsidies, cash grants, health programs, insurance and pension funds and housing assistance. She noted that the total expenditure for social protection activities comes from the state budget, noting that it has increased over the previous years, reaching nearly EGP 500 billion in the budget of the current fiscal year. .
In addition, the President followed the current situation of the stock of basic strategic products, in particular cereals, cereals and oils, where the Minister of Supply explained that the stock of these products is sufficient for seven months. He pointed to the state’s development of a new silo system that clearly reflects the state’s ability to deal with emergencies and meet necessary needs during the COVID-19 crisis and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
