Grenada: the Ministry of Social Development participates in the handover ceremony between SAEP Grenada and the Ministry
Granada: The Ministry of Social Development, Housing and Community Empowerment of Grenada is pleased to participate in this handover ceremony between SAEP Grenada and the Ministry of Social and Community Development, Housing and Gender Affairs. This initiative is essential to facilitate gender mainstreaming in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. In a development context, it is imperative to integrate a gender perspective into programming and interventions.
Over the years, Grenada has made strides towards promoting gender equality as a key driver of development and, by extension, prosperity. However, the effects of the pandemic have impacted progress on gender equality and women’s rights by deepening pre-existing inequalities. These inequalities include, but are not limited to, health, economy, security and social protection.
This collaboration with SAEP is an opportunity to strengthen efforts to contribute to the reduction of poverty and vulnerability of men and women in rural communities in the state of Grenada with a focus on the agricultural sector with the implementation of a six (6) year program (2018-2024) – The Climate-Smart Agriculture and Rural Enterprises Program (SAEP).
The collaboration should facilitate the following:
1. Support in office automation equipment to the DGFA by the SAEP Program;
2. Implementation of operational measures to ensure equitable gender participation and benefit from project activities; including:
~Training of Gender Division staff and volunteers (a pool of facilitators) on gender equality, gender issues/CSA and human rights for the Gender and Family Affairs Division and training of beneficiaries of the SAEP, and
~Training of Ministerial Gender Focal Points.
3. SAEP beneficiaries (including 4Hers) benefiting from capacity building through DGFA training and sensitization
The ministry was quoted as follows: “Today, as Minister of State for Social Development and Gender, we are pleased to begin this collaboration with the receipt of office equipment for the Execution Unit direct, the Gender and Family Affairs Division.. The ministry looks forward to our continued collaboration as we execute this critical initiative.
