Minister of Social Development: Qatar is one of the first states in the world to meet the needs of the elderly

Minister of Social Development and Family HE Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad during the Senior Friends-Friendly event at WHO Headquarters, New York, USA.

New York: The Minister of Social Development and Family, HE Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, stressed that Qatar is among the world’s leading countries in efforts to meet the needs of the elderly and has the one of the best social protection systems to guarantee them a decent life.

While attending a Friends of Age-Friendly event at the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters in New York, USA, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, she pointed out that serving the elderly is an integral part of the customs and traditions of Qatari society and an essential part of the Islamic religion.

WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus chaired the event, which was attended by over 250 participants from Their Excellencies, panel members and the aging NGO community .

The event discussed the most important global efforts to support older people and meet their needs towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on social development.
