Oman Cables Industry SAOG: launches ‘SHE STEMS’, the social development program for Omani women.

SEPTEMBER 2022, MUSCAT, OMAN:

This week, Oman Cables Industry (OCI) welcomed on board twenty Omani female students for the SHE STEMS social development program which aims to prepare more Omani women for the manufacturing and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) sectors of the country.

The program launch follows Oman Cables Industry signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and Ministry of Labor (MOL) in early August to develop and implement the initiative. SHE STEMS.

In line with the strategic objectives of Oman’s Vision 2040, SHE STEMS will create more opportunities for Omani women to pursue careers in the industrial sector and contribute to building a productive and diversified economy, based on innovation, integration of roles and equal opportunities.

The twenty Omani students were selected from a list of more than three hundred applicants. Starting this week, they have started a six-month ‘Machine Operations’ course which will focus on practical skills development and hands-on on-the-job training in machine operations, with an emphasis on on the manufacturing sector. The training will be supervised by highly competent and qualified instructors.

The Machine Operations course is the first of three SHE STEMS programs planned for deployment, all of which will be officially certified by MOHERI. At the end of the training, each graduate will receive a SHE STEMS certificate recognized by the Ministry.

“We are delighted to be part of this unique initiative in Oman. The program will prepare more Omani women for the country’s critical manufacturing sector and enable them to make great strides towards achieving their career goals.
