Refugees need social protection, says Sanwo-Olu

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, underscored the need for refugees to thrive through the provision of social protection by the state.

He said: “The refugees are not the problem, we are the problem here. We, the senators, your leaders and your community leaders who refuse to agree to resolve the disputes that arise and listen to the solutions, because there will always be disputes.

“But normally what should happen is that all forms of disagreement must be resolved, because failure to resolve them will lead to wars, conflicts and displacement.

“Refugees are hardworking and motivated people; all they are looking for is a space to thrive, a shoulder to cry on and once you give them that social protection, they will thrive and be ready to contribute their own quota to their communities. ‘welcome.

“Lagos remains a land of great opportunity for all and that is why, as your leader and governor, we will continue to provide you with that ambiance and space, regardless of your religion or beliefs or where you are from. .”

Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Displaced Persons, Imaan Ibrahim-Sulaiman said: “The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Whoever, where, when, everyone has the right to seek safety ‘, and the import of this message is that everyone has the right to seek safety: whoever they are, wherever they come from and whenever they are forced to flee.
