Social protection in the Global Gateway Investment Package

The objective of the event is to present evidence of the contribution of social protection to the achievement of the objectives of the Global Gateway Investment Package. After an introduction, INTPA G4 (thematic section on social protection) will present its approach to the new generation of social protection programs and INTPA’s contribution to the latest international developments in this field. This is then followed by an expert analysis on strengthening the Africa-EU partnership on social protection through the Global Gateway Africa-Europe Investment package, highlighting international best practices and challenges, # Team Europe and offering several entry points on how social protection can help achieve the objectives of the Global Gateway Investment Package.

Social protection systems stimulate economic growth by increasing consumption, enable universal access to education, health care and empower women. It is a fundamental element of “decent work”. It provides a basic income for the elderly and the unemployed; it can build resilience and helps accelerate the response to various shocks. It supports digital transformation by setting standards for social protection ecosystems to make them interoperable. It will be followed by a sharing of views from representatives of an EU Member State, an EU delegation and the perspective of the private sector.
