The Golden Center offers afternoon socials – Quesnel Cariboo Observer
Inside the Golden Center early Thursday afternoon, Phil Erickson could be seen playing pool with Harry West.
Later, the first vice president of the senior club shared a few laughs with other members who stopped for lunch and mingle.
He hopes others will consider joining now that the center on Front Street run by the Old Age Pensioners Organization is open.
It was previously closed to the public throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, though Erickson and a few other fully vaccinated members still managed to gather around games of pool, cradle or cards.
“Everyone found something else to do,” Erickson said. “Either that or they’re all still scared.”
Membership Director Elaine Couldwell agreed it’s hard to get others out and people are in a rut.
“We’re always on the lookout for new members,” Erickson said, noting that there have been at least a dozen members who have since moved into Dunrovin Park Lodge or passed away in the past two years.
“It’s open to everyone.”
Membership is available for ages 45 and older.
The Golden Center is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m.
