The Ministry of Social Development continues the distribution of covid19 checks

THE Department of Social Development and Family Services has stated that the distribution of covid19 2020 social support checks will continue at its headquarters at the Clico Building, St Vincent Street, Port of Spain, until October 20.

In a statement, the department said checks would be distributed in alphabetical order on designated days at its office in Port of Spain. People with the first names AC, DJ, KN, OR and SZ can withdraw their checks between October 7 and 12, October 8 and 13, October 11 and 15 and October 18 and 20. The distribution time slots on all these days are from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Individuals cashing their respective checks must present their used IDs when applying for covid19 relief. For residents of Tobago, the department said they can collect their checks at the Social Welfare Office, l Wilson Road, Scarborough. These checks will be available from October 11.

In his presentation of the 2022 budget to the House of Representatives on Monday, Finance Minister Colm Imbert said: “Since March 2020 and despite our declining revenues, we have incurred expenditures of more than $5 billion thanks to covid19 help for individuals and businesses.

Imbert said part of that relief included 51,493 grants from the Department of Social Development and Family Services “in the form of food and income support to people who have been laid off, laid off or whose income has been reduced during an initial period not exceeding 3 months at a cost of $221.4 million.
